Education is the key to a better life and cornerstone of any nation's development. With education, people can get good jobs and improve their future. Gombe State is committed to ensuring that every child has access to quality basic education. The Baseline Mapping Exercise for Basic Education Teachers in Gombe State is a critical step in addressing the challenges faced by the state's education sector, particularly in the areas of teacher recruitment, deployment, and retention. This report, prepared in line with the requirements of the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity: Governance (HOPE-GOV) programme, provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of basic education in Gombe State, identifying teachers’ gaps and proposes actionable solutions to improve the adequacy and quality of basic education teachers in the State.
The findings of this exercise highlight the urgent need for strategic interventions to address the significant teacher shortages, particularly in rural areas, and to ensure that all students have access to qualified and motivated teachers. By implementing the recruitment/deployment plan and recommendations outlined in this report, Gombe State can make significant strides toward achieving the goals of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) program and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
